I Survived the Japanese Tsunami
A short realistic fiction book, “I Survived the Japanese Tsunami”, by Lauren Tarshis, describes little Harry and his older brother Ben and their point of view going through one of the worst tsunamis ever. Ben and his family were planning to go to Japan. They were going to visit Ben’s grandfather, Ojeson. However, just one month before they were supposed to go to Japan, Ben’s father died in a car wreck getting Ben and Harry doughnuts. Then, they decided that they should go to Japan in memory of Ben’s dad. Then, they got there and Ben wouldn’t want to talk to Ojeson or listen to any memories about his dad. Finally, They were sleeping and a huge earthquake hit, and not too long later a tsunami hit, and Ben, Harry, Mom, and Ojeson were swept away, or were they?
A character in, “I Survived the Japanese Tsunami”, Ben, has some intriguing character traits. First, Ben is sad. Ben is sad because his dad died, his best friend. Next, Ben is Brave. Ben was not scared when the earthquake hit or when the tsunami hit. Instead of being scared and getting crushed by the roof, he jumped into action saving his brother and him. Last, Ben is kind. After the tsunami hit Ben watched over abandoned kids until their parents came. Also, he helped pick up debris after the disaster struck. Clearly, Ben is an interesting character
