The Only Game

The Only Game, by Mike Lupica, describes the life of a middle school group of kids fighting through some hard times. Jack Callahan was the best player in Walton, Kanas, and some even said he was the best in the state. Going into his next season he was predicted to have the best year he has ever had. But more excited than anyone was Jack's best friend Gus. Then out of nowhere, Jack quits. Later on in the book, it describes that Jack’s big brother died in a dirt bike crash, so Jack blamed himself for his brother’s death. Jack is like a celebrity in Wallton, so everybody knows who he is and very quickly finds out he has quit. So the best softball player in Walton, a girl by the name of Cassie came to Jack, and eventually, she convinced Jack, his brother’s death was not his fault. With Jack leading the way his team would be able to go on and win the Little League World Series.

This book never left me questioning. Every question I had was answered on the next page. The details of this book don't just tell me what happens they give me a vision. The three main characters in this story made me think and feel like I have known them for years with all the details they give you. I don’t really like reading but when I was reading this book I really enjoyed it and I bet you would too.
